Few games get children giggling and concentrating quite like a memory game. The suspense of flipping over the next card, the triumph of finding a pair—it’s a simple idea that never gets old.
Now imagine the fun of playing a version you’ve designed yourself. Whether it’s hand-drawn pictures, favourite characters, or even family photographs, creating your own memory game is as enjoyable as playing it. And with a laminator, the cards stay strong and glossy—ready for endless rounds at home or repeated use in the classroom.
This activity isn’t just playtime. It supports memory, focus, and recognition skills, making it a brilliant tool for both family fun and group learning.
Memory games are all about matching. Children can draw pictures, cut out printed images, or use photographs—a brilliant way to include favourite people, pets, or snaps from family holidays. In a classroom, themes can link to learning: numbers, letters, shapes, or vocabulary words.
Use a ruler to mark equal-sized squares or rectangles across an A4 sheet. Fill each square with a design or photo, making sure there are two of each.
If paints, glue, or stickers are used, allow the sheet to dry fully before laminating.
Place the completed sheet into a laminating pouch and feed it sealed edge first into the laminator. Let it cool flat before cutting.
Trim out the squares. The lamination will seal neatly around each piece, creating strong, reusable cards.
Mix the cards face down and take turns flipping two at a time to find pairs. The player with the most matches wins!
